AML/CTF compliance · Accountants & Lawyers

AML/CTF compliance software for Australian accountants and lawyers.

From 1 July 2026, accounting and legal practices that provide certain services must comply with Australia's AML/CTF laws. ClientCheck is built around AUSTRAC's own Accounting Program Starter Kit — so your program is right from day one.

What AUSTRAC requires

Here's what your practice must have in place.

AUSTRAC has published what they expect. Here it is in plain English — no jargon, no consultant fees required to understand it.

01

Know your client

Before providing a designated service, you must collect and verify each client's identity, identify who you're actually dealing with (including beneficial owners), assess their risk level, and screen them against PEP and sanctions watchlists.

ClientCheck: ClientCheck walks your staff through every step — identity collection, beneficial ownership, risk rating, and automated DFAT sanctions screening.

02

Report suspicious matters

When a transaction or relationship raises concerns — unusual patterns, inconsistent information, or behaviour that may be linked to money laundering or terrorism financing — you have a legal obligation to report it to AUSTRAC within strict timeframes.

ClientCheck: ClientCheck guides your AMLCO through drafting and submitting suspicious matter reports, with reporting deadlines tracked automatically.

03

Report large cash transactions

Any physical cash transaction of $10,000 or more must be reported to AUSTRAC within 10 business days — no exceptions, no minimum threshold below $10,000.

ClientCheck: ClientCheck flags threshold transactions, generates the report, and tracks the 10-business-day deadline so nothing slips through.

04

Maintain your AML/CTF program

Your practice must maintain a written AML/CTF program — covering your risk assessment, policies, controls, staff training, and annual compliance review — consistent with AUSTRAC's Accounting Program Starter Kit.

ClientCheck: ClientCheck generates your compliant program from a short questionnaire. Risk assessment, policy document, and process document all included. No blank pages.

How it works

Set up in an afternoon. Run it every day.

1

Answer questions about your practice

Work through a plain-English questionnaire about your practice — size, client types, services provided. ClientCheck uses your answers to generate your risk assessment, policy document, and process document, consistent with AUSTRAC's own Accounting Program Starter Kit. Takes around two hours.

2

Run every new client through CDD

When a new client comes in, your staff open a CDD workflow. ClientCheck guides them through identity verification, risk rating, PEP screening, and DFAT sanctions checks — and flags anything that needs your compliance officer's attention before the client relationship proceeds.

3

Records and reports look after themselves

Every compliance action is logged automatically. Your annual compliance report is pre-filled from the year's activity. If AUSTRAC ever requests evidence, everything is there — timestamped, structured, and in order.

No blank forms. No jargon. Every screen is built for an accountant or lawyer — not a dedicated compliance team.

Staff training

Track who's been trained and when.

AUSTRAC requires you to maintain evidence that staff who handle designated services are trained in AML/CTF — and that you keep that training current. ClientCheck logs every training record, shows completion status across your team, and flags staff who are due for a refresh.

  • Training modules built around AUSTRAC requirements
  • Completion tracked per staff member automatically
  • Due-date alerts before training lapses
  • Exported evidence for audits and inspections

Common questions

What you'd want to know.

Is my accounting or legal practice captured by Tranche 2 AML/CTF laws?

If your accounting or legal practice provides designated services — such as forming companies, acting as a trustee or company director, managing client money, or assisting with property transactions — you are likely captured by Tranche 2. Obligations commence 1 July 2026. AUSTRAC has published the full list of designated services for accounting and legal practices.

When do AML/CTF obligations start for accountants and lawyers in Australia?

AML/CTF obligations for accounting and legal practices under Tranche 2 commence on 1 July 2026. AUSTRAC enrolment must be completed by 29 July 2026 — 28 days after obligations begin. The enrolment portal is already open.

What must be in an accounting practice's AML/CTF program?

An AML/CTF program must include a risk assessment, a policy document, a procedures document for staff, a staff training program, and an annual compliance review process. It should be consistent with AUSTRAC's own Accounting Program Starter Kit. ClientCheck generates all required program documents from a guided questionnaire.

Is ClientCheck legally sufficient for AUSTRAC compliance?

ClientCheck is a compliance workflow tool — not legal advice. It is built around AUSTRAC's own Accounting Program Starter Kit and generates the documents, records, and processes AUSTRAC requires. For advice specific to your practice, consult an AML/CTF specialist.

What if I miss the 1 July 2026 AML/CTF deadline?

From 1 July 2026, obligations apply regardless of whether your enrolment is complete. AUSTRAC can issue significant civil penalties for non-compliance. AUSTRAC enrolment must be completed by 29 July 2026. Start your AML/CTF program before the deadline — not after.

How long does AML/CTF compliance setup take with ClientCheck?

Most practices complete their initial AML/CTF program setup in two to three hours. The questionnaire covers your risk assessment, policies, and procedures — program documents are generated automatically. CDD workflows are live immediately. No blank pages, no consultant required.

Can I export my compliance data if I leave ClientCheck?

Yes. Your compliance records are fully exportable at any time. Under AML/CTF law you must retain records for 7 years from the end of each client relationship — so we ensure your data is always yours to keep, regardless of your subscription status.

Get compliant before 1 July 2026.
